Description
Keepers of the Wild is currently home to over 140 exotic and indigenous wild animals that were rescued, surrendered by an owner, or placed with us by other animal welfare agencies. Animals placed at Keepers of the Wild can depend on a safe and life-long home. Keepers of the Wild has a strict “No Breeding” policy with a special focus on advocacy, education and protection. We continually strive to fulfill our mission to educate the public and to rescue, rehabilitate and provide life-long care to exotic and indigenous wildlife.
Kenai was found as a cub with his mother and sister in Flagstaff. The bears were captured, tagged and relocated by Arizona Game & Fish to Fort Rock Ranch to an approved release site away from people.
Apollo – arrived 6-28-2008 Brought to us from Oklahoma. He was primarily used for photo opportunities. Having avoided euthanasia, he has a happy home here at Keepers of the Wild.
AnnaBelle – arrived 12-31-2010 AnnaBelle arrived at Keepers of the Wild by Adobe Mountain Center in Phoenix. AnnaBelle is a juvenile bobcat that had gotten friendly with a homeowner who had been feeding her.
Roscoe arrived on 12/4/2015. Roscoe is a White Faced Capuchin monkey that was kept as a pet for 15 years and surrendered by his owner. The owner wanted him to have an opportunity to have companionship with other monkeys.
Precious – arrived 7-30-2009 Precious had been privately owned and has been relocated to (2) other animal facilities before Keepers was able to give her a permanent home. She was first placed at a zoo, where she did not fit in with their resident lemurs.
Banyanita, a 9 year old female Arctic Wolf is the mother of Shadow, Pawnee & Unita. Her and her family survived a blazing inferno by digging a 15 ft. tunnel underground. They are known as the “Miracle Wolves of the Butte Fire”
Cinco is a Mule Deer fawn that is approximately one month old. He had been confiscated from a home where an individual’s kindhearted intent was not in Cinco’s best interest. He was immediately welcomed by our four other deer fawns and joined “the herd”.
Mateo arrived on 2/5/2011 along with a llama and 2 other alpaca. We introduced them to our current residents, Snowy (llama) and Cuzco (alpaca), from previous rescues.
Lizzie was purchased and kept as a pet for several years. The owners decided they were no longer able to keep her and brought her to Keepers of the Wild.
