Description
Knott’s Berry Farm is a 160-acre amusement park in Buena Park, California, owned by Cedar Fair. It was the twelfth most visited theme park in North America in 2015.The park features 40 rides including roller coasters, family rides, children’s rides, water rides, and historical rides, and it employs about 10,000 seasonal and full-time employees.
The theme park sits on the site of a former berry farm established by Walter Knott, Cordelia Knott, and their family. Beginning around 1920, the Knott family sold berries, berry preserves, and pies from a roadside stand along State Route 39. In 1934, the Knotts began selling fried chicken dinners in a tea room on the property, and the Knotts built several shops and other attractions to entertain visitors. Cordelia Knott’s efforts in the Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant were essential to putting Knott’s Berry Farm on the map, and the ensuing crowds prompted the creation of even more tourist attractions. In 1940, Walter Knott began constructing a replica Ghost Town on the property. Knott added several other attractions over the years, and began charging admission to the attractions in 1968. In 1983, Knott’s Berry Farm added Camp Snoopy, which began the park’s present-day association with the Peanuts characters.
Voyage to the Iron Reef
Voyage to the Iron Reef, a spectacular new 4-D interactive ride, has surfaced at Knott’s Berry Farm. Grab a freeze ray and join the battle to save Knott’s from the mysterious creatures that are emerging from the waters beneath the Boardwalk! Ever since construction crews finished expanding the Boardwalk pier in 2013, guests have happily enjoyed the many new attractions like Coast Rider and Surfside Gliders. But all that activity on the Boardwalk shores has reawakened a mystic lair in the depths below, filled with creatures who have risen up to wreak havoc on the classic So Cal theme park.
Since its opening in 1969, the Log Ride has always been one of the most elaborate log flume rides in the US, taking guests through an 85-foot-high by 330-foot-long mountain range themed to a nineteenth-century lumber camp. In 2013, the Log Ride reopened after an extensive revitalization, included the restoration of classic scenes, upgrades to ride figures, and new special effects to thrill guests and preserve this classic attraction for a new generation of fans.
Silver Bullet
Knott’s inverted coaster sends riders climbing to a height of 146 feet, then soaring back down with an initial drop of 109 feet. Riders will spiral, corkscrew, fly into a cobra roll, and experience overbanked curves. Overall, riders will find themselves upside down six times including one vertical loop of 105 feet.
You’ll think the gods have gone crazy when you blast from 0 to 55 in just 3 seconds, traveling through a giant, seven-story loop — once forward, then again backwards.
Grand Sierra Railroad
The four-minute ride is a miniature replica of an actual steam locomotive similar to the one operating in Ghost Town. The beautifully decorated train takes guests on a scenic trip where they can take in the sights of Camp Snoopy® and Fiesta Village.
Charlie Brown’s Kite Flyer
Fly a Kite” with Charlie Brown as campers soar above the land’s winding paths and babbling streams – but watch out for the kite-eating tree! As the tree rises, good ol’ Charlie Brown is revealed upside down and all tied up in kite string!
Rapid River Run
Young campers will need to get ready to paddle down the river as they brave the rapids in this rolling excursion that takes passengers to a height of 21 feet and back again as they spin through the river’s current. The campers need not worry though, with Lucy at the helm the voyage returns safely to shore.
