Description
Spread across 190 acres on beautiful Mission Bay Park, SeaWorld is known for amazing animal shows, interactive attractions, aquariums, rides, beautiful landscaping and education programs for all ages.
Unforgettable experiences begin immediately at SeaWorld’s new, interactive arrival experience, Explorer’s Reef. Guests enter under an iconic wave sculpture and are immediately immersed into an undersea adventure where they can touch a shark, interact with a ray and feel tiny cleaner fish gently nibble at their hands.
SeaWorld’s family of killer whales are ambassadors of the sea in the One Ocean show and can be seen in a whole different light at Shamu’s Underwater Viewing, a 70-foot by 9-foot viewing panel that offers an unparalleled view of these majestic marine mammals. On select dates, SeaWorld also offer Killer Whales: Up Close, a newer show that takes a deeper dive into the world of the ocean’s top predator, as the training staff shares how they care for the whales.
In SeaWorld’s island-inspired Dolphin Days show, guests are immersed in the world of marine mammals. Dolphin Days combines spectacular dolphin and pilot whale behaviors with a close-up look at the animals and the special relationship they have with their trainers.
For the thrill seekers, SeaWorld has Journey to Atlantis, Shipwreck Rapids and of course Manta, SeaWorld’s double-launch, multi-media roller coaster. For a relaxing, serene experience, there’s Turtle Reef, where guests can see dozens of sea turtles swimming in their 280,000-gallon habitat. And for laughter and silly fun, California sea lions Clyde and Seamore show off with their trainers in Sea Lions LIVE.
For those who want to get even more up close to some of the ocean’s most fascinating creatures, SeaWorld’s animal encounters can be a dream come true: the Dolphin Interaction Program allows guests to feed, touch and play with bottlenose dolphins; and the Beluga Interaction Program is a unique chance to enter the water with beluga whales, gentle giants known as “sea canaries” for their bird-like vocalizations.
Waves of excitement are coming ashore at SeaWorld San Diego in 2017, including new inspiring, natural orca encounters as part of the park’s ongoing commitment to education, marine science research and the rescue of marine animals. The new encounters will focus on orca enrichment, education, care and respect. Also coming next year is Ocean Explorer, a new attraction that will combine multiple aquariums, exciting rides and digital technologies to engage park guests in an experience centered on exploration and adventure inspiring them to protect the wonders of our oceans.
With all the fun SeaWorld guests may not know what goes on behind the scenes, where zoological team members are caring for rescued animals that were found ill, injured or stranded on beaches along the San Diego coastline. Over the last 50 years, SeaWorld San Diego’s Rescue Team has taken in and cared for more than 16,000 marine animals. The goal of the rescue program is to rescue, rehabilitate and return animals to the wild, giving them a second chance at life.
