There are 5 species of flamingos. They live in tropical or subtropical locations in shallow salt marshes and brackish coastal lagoons. The flamingo’s trademark pink feathers get their beautiful color from alpha and beta caortenoid pigments found in the food they eat. In the wild these foods include various insects and red algae.
The snow leopard or ounce Panthera uncia is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. The snow leopard shows several adaptations for living in a cold, mountainous environment. Its body is stocky, its fur is thick, and its ears are small and rounded, features that help to minimize heat loss. Its broad paws well distribute the body weight for walking on snow, and have fur on their undersides to increase their grip on steep and unstable surfaces; it also helps to minimize heat loss. Its long and flexible tail helps to maintain balance in the rocky terrain. The tail is also very thick due to fat storage, and is very thickly covered with fur, which allows the cat to use it like a blanket to protect its face when asleep.
