SPOTTED GARDEN EEL

These eel live in colonies of thousands of individuals. They rarely leave their burrows so they rely on the ocean currents to bring plankton to them for feeding.

CLOWN TRIGGERFISH

One of the most exotically patterned fish in the ocean, it can lock its dorsal fin to increase its size and create a formidable prickly defense against predators. These fish have powerful jaws for eating crustaceans. They use their puckered lips to blow jets of water at sea urchins, turning them over and exposing their tender underbelly, the triggerfish’s favorite snack.

HORSESHOE CRABS

Horseshoe crabs are not true crabs; they are related to spiders and scorpions.They lay their eggs on beaches, have copper-based blue blood that is used by scientists to diagnose diseases, and they are considered living fossils as they have been on Earth for over 200 million years!






LIONFISH

Lionfish are known for their venomous fin rays, a feature that is common among marine fish in coral reefs. Their potent venom makes them excellent predators and dangerous to fishermen and divers.

Spotted Eagle Ray

The Spotted Eagle Ray can be easily identified with its unique rounded snout and white polka-dots along its dark purple colored back. They can reach a length of 16 feet and a wingspan of 10 feet when fully grown.

COWNOSE RAY

These rays are golden or tan in color and can reach lengths of 4 feet in wingspan and grow up to 36 pounds. They are bottom feeders and use the flaps surrounding their mouths to dig through the sand to locate buried prey such as clams, mussels, and oysters.
