Description
Idlewild and Soak Zone, commonly known as Idlewild Park or simply Idlewild, is a children’s amusement park situated in the Laurel Highlands near Ligonier, Pennsylvania, United States, about 50 miles 80 km east of Pittsburgh, along US Route 30. Founded in 1878 as a campground along the Ligonier Valley Railroad by Thomas Mellon, Idlewild is the oldest amusement park in Pennsylvania and the third oldest operating amusement park in the United States behind Lake Compounce and Cedar Point.
Ten umbrella-covered seats resembling parachutes spin around in a counter-clockwise direction. As it spins, the entire ride lifts to a 45 degree angle giving the riders the feeling of parachuting toward the ground only to rise back up again and repeat the cycle.
Located in Jumpin’ JungleWhat could be more fun than Sliding Down the Jungle hillside? Sliding Down with Bigfoot of course.
Another classic amusement park ride that has remained popular for generations. Riders sit in one of seven cars that are fixed to a pivot pin on independent platforms allowing each car to spin. The revolving platforms on which the cars sit roll over hills and valleys causing centrifugal and gravitational forces to tip and spin the cars randomly.
Twist around like a tornado on one of eight, four-seater cars. Make it spin as fast, or as slowly, as you want by using the common wheel in the center of the car.
We call it WOW-abunga because it has a whopping 280,600 gallons of fun that’s better than being at the seashore. Following intermittent periods of calm water conditions, a signal sounds and the pool generates waves at timed intervals, allowing swimmers to “ride the tide.”
